LIVE REVIEW: THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM - GLASGOW O2 ACADEMY - 18.03.2024

It might be a cold and miserable night here in the heart of Glasgow but that doesn’t stop American rock band The Gaslight Anthem who are here to take the roof of one of Glasgow’s famous venues, the o2 Academy!

First up was Emily Wolfe. The crowd was packing into the venue with beers in hand ready to rock the night away, Emily Wolfe certainly got the memo! Her amazing heavy guitar skills paired with strong vocals made up for an excellent set that warmed up the crowd.

It was time for the main act of the night The Gaslight Anthem who have not long released their first new album in over nine years! The lights dimmed down and the crowd erupted into roars as the lads took to the stage. Kicking off the setlist from the night with one of their newer songs “I Live In The Room Above Her” which is from their recent album "History Books".

With it being a SOLD-OUT show you can imagine the sound coming from the room full of rock fans having the time of their lives with their arms in the air throughout majority of the set, there was even a mini mosh pit happening halfway through the show, with everyone bouncing around and having a good time.

The band powered through song after song with not a lot of chat, although frontman Brian Fallon did admit that the band won't be leaving the stage for “a game of peekaboo” referring to when bands usually go off for an encore. The solid setlist of the night was a great mix of the band's releases throughout the years including “The Patient Ferris Wheel”, “Red Violins” & “Blue Dahlia” along with newer releases “Spider Bites”, Michigan, 1975”. The crowd also got a nice surprise with a special appearance from support act Emily Wolfe for “The Weatherman” and “Blue Jeans”.

Towards the end of the setlist came some of the bands most popular songs “45” and “The 59 Sound” ending on “The Backseat” and “We’re Getting A Divorce”. Ending the night on a high as the crowd flooded out the venue with a buzz still in the air which only means one thing.. A good night was had!
